This was a renovation of the existing 145,000 square-foot high school with a couple of additions. There were many challenges with keeping power and lighting available while the students and faculty occupied parts of the building. The phasing of the new high school was complex and challenging. The school remained operational while different areas were demolished and renovated. The heart of the building’s reinvention involved filling the existing courtyard to establish a centralized learning common. This new gathering space is directly connected to the arts and technology disciplines on one side, while still joined with the school’s cafeteria on the other. The high school’s new structure establishes open and free-flowing corridors throughout, enabling access to all major facilities such as a large gymnasium, auditorium, media center, and TV studio. This proved to be very complex while each phase was being built. Annese Electric needed to look beyond the phase at hand preparing for the other phasing coming up in the future to make sure power, lighting, technology, and fire alarm systems infrastructures were ready to be installed.
